I have always thought gum disease and gingivitis were the same thing. I try to teach my kids the importance or oral health. I didn't have the best oral health when I was younger and I paid for it. I am hoping to help my kids avoid the troubles I have had.

If it's given the opportunity to progress, then surgery is usually necessary to remove the diseased gums. At this point, catching it as early as possible will help reduce the damage.

I remember when I was younger I had problems with my teeth. A few different times I developed abscesses in my gums. It was easily some of the worst pain I've been in. I've been told that a lot of other gum diseases can be even more severe and painful. I hope people make sure they get treated when they have these issues and do whatever they can to keep their teeth as healthy as possible.

My husband has always had issues, despite all of the brushing and flossing, and semi-annual visits, he is always has cavities, or needs some sort of dental work done. I think it is important to keep up good oral health so the bacteria does not get into our blood stream.
